GST effect on bikes Toyota Innova Crysta, Fortuner & Corolla Altis prices dropped

After the recently implemented Goods and Service Tax Bill (GST), Toyota Kirloskar Motors has now announced a massive price drop across its model range in India. Toyota’s largest selling product, the premium MPV Innova Crysta has now become cheaper by INR 98,500 while it’s second largest selling product the Fortuner SUV sees a whooping INR 2.17 lakh price drop. These are due to the fact that large SUVs, which are above 4-meters in length and are equipped with large engines are now to warrant 43 percent tax under the new GST scheme, which is significantly lower than pre-GST rates. This will have a direct impact on the sales of these vehicles, which are set to increase even further. Not only this, sedans which are over 4-meters in length and get larger capacity engines, just like the Toyota Corolla Altis are also to get cheaper. The sedan’s prices are now to go down by approximate INR 92,500. Toyota c-segment sedan, the Etios Platinum will too see a price drop, of about INR 24,500 while the small hatchback, the Etios Liva is to get a price drop of about INR 10,500. These rates will differ from state to state. As all the other segments witness a price drop, the one which needed the most, the one of Hybrid cars remained distant from GST benefits. Hybrid car’s rates are now to increase; cars like the Camry Hybrid and the Prius Hybrid are set to get expensive by INR 3.5 lakh and INR 5.2 lakh respectively. This could lead to a major set-back for the faster adoption of Hybrid cars in India. The GST effect on car prices is such that all the segments, except for that of the Hybrid attracts major to minor price drops. In the coming days, this could result in increase in the sales of vehicles falling in the segments which have witnessed a price drop.

Due to the GST effect, the Bajaj Dominar 400 becomes pricier by INR 2,000 in India. Under the new set of taxes, the prices of motorcycles having engine capacity greater than 350cc see an increase in price. This is due to the fact that all such two-wheelers now attract an additional cess of 3 percent, taking the overall GST to 31 percent. The Pune-based manufacturer has not officially commented on the new prices of the Bajaj Dominar 400. However, India.com Auto has learnt from its sources the new prices of the company’s flagship model. To be precise, the non-ABS version of the Bajaj Dominar 400 will now cost 1,41,054 while the top end ABS trim will now set you back by INR 1,55,215 (both prices, ex-showroom, Delhi). This is the third time that the motorcycle has seen a hike in price since its launch in December 2016. The company issued an increase of INR 2000 the in price of the Dominar 400 first in April followed by INR 1000 hike in May. Now, with the latest revision in prices, the power cruiser stands at a total increased price of close to INR 5,000 as compared to its launch price. Bajaj Auto has had high hopes with the Dominar 400 even before its launch. The Managing Director of the company, Mr Rajiv Bajaj had earlier stated that the power cruiser has the potential of clocking five digit sales numbers a month and he wish to see this figure coming true by the festive season. This includes the exports figures as well.Sadly, the sales of the Bajaj Dominar 400 have been decreasing month on month and the bike recorded its lowest ever sales with just 1,500 units sold in May 2017. Earlier, this motorcycle clocked its best ever sales with 3,216 units seeing a new home in the month of March this year.At present, the Bajaj Dominar 400 is available in a total of 56 cities across India. The company is planning to establish the bike well in major cities first followed by expanding its reach to smaller towns and cities. Once this happens, the sales of the bike may see a significant rise in sales, reaching close to that number which Bajaj Auto is aiming for.

Bajaj Dominar 400 is powered by a 373cc, single cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that comes mated to a slipper clutch assisted six-speed gearbox. The fuel injected motor sheds out respective power and torque outputs of 34.5 bhp and 35 Nm. Prime highlights of the Dominar 400 include full LED headlamp, digital instrument cluster with reverse backlit facility, dual disc brakes with an optional ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) and a sturdy power cruiser design language.
