The Indian central cabinet today approved a bill mentioning the immediate three-pronged criminal offense. The draft of the Muslim Ummah (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2017, has said that the trial of three divorce courts and the bail is inaccessible. If convicted, three years imprisonment has been made.
The winter session of Parliament has started from today. The bill is expected to be passed in this session.
On August 22, a five-judge Supreme Court judge, headed by Chief Justice Jagdish Singh Khair, imposed six months restriction on three divorces. The court also ordered the central government to make laws on this. After this, the government drafted the bill and sent it to the states for the debate on 1 December. He was asked to respond by December 10. Already Assam, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand have issued letters to the draft bill.
In response to the court's verdict, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that this is why Muslim women have equal rights. And BJP president Amit Shah said that it is the beginning of 'new era' for Muslim women.
However, Muslim organizations, including the Muslim Law Board, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Jamiat Ulamae Hind, strongly condemned the Supreme Court verdict that there are three anti-Muslim practices in Islam since about one and a half thousand years.
