In early 17th Century, Narahari Dev of Nimbarka Community came from western India to settle on the bank of Banka river at Rajganj in Burdwan dist., Bengal and earned respect as the man with Divine Powers. He brought "Damodarjiu" with him the deity he used to worship. His deciple Sukhdev Goswami as "Mahanta" built the earlier temple for "Damodarjiu". The 9th Mahanta Madhusudan sharan Dev (1898 - 1920 AD.) rebuilt the temple, following the Ranchhorraijiu temple architecture of Dakor, Gujarat
