Dates of Panchayat election to be rescheduled, ordered Calcutta High Court
The Calcutta High Court on Friday ordered the West Bengal State Election Commission to announce fresh dates for filing of nominations for panchayat polls.
The election was earlier scheduled in three phases on May 1st, 3rd and 5th. The court directed the Commission to issue fresh date for filing of nomination papers, cancelling earlier date of 9th April following allegations of large scale violence by the opposition parties. This declaration of HC leads to cancellation of the election on May 1st.
