Congress man Abhishek Manu Singhvi defends ‘Female Genital Mutilation’!

In many communities and caste, suppressing female in the name of tradition and custom is very common. Most of the religious heads and so called village heads frame such rules that would demean a women and her dignity to establish dominance over her.
One such cruel practice is the female genital mutilation which is very prevalent in the Dawoodi Bohra religion since centuries. The cruel practice also called Khatna, involves the cutting of clitoral head, which Bohras believe makes women lead a life of infidelity. It’s generally done at a young age by midwives in unhygienic conditions. A PIL was filed against this practice from the Bohra women saying that the circumcision causes pain during menstruation and sexual intercourse, loss of libido and even pain during urination.
The PIL which was heard in the Supreme Court headed by Deepak Misra agreed to the petitioner saying that the practice would violate privacy and compromises with bodily integrity. “Our genitals are as private as any other body. Why anybody should be allowed to touch the genital of a human being? Why bodily integrity should be violated and compromised?” asked justice D Y Chandrachud, a member of the bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra. The central government also supported the Supreme Court observation and demanded complete ban on all sort of female genital mutilation procedures. Hindustan Times.
But shockingly, the Congress which cries about liberalism has openly defended this cruel practice. Their leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi has represented a trust which opposed the PILs filed by Bohra women. Mr Singhvi said female circumcision is not the same as female genital mutilation and argued that the practice is part of the essentiality of the Dawoodi Bohra religion since centuries and the same would be protected under Article 25 and 26, right to practice and propagate religion.
K K Venugopal who represented the central government, differed and said, “Unlike male circumcision, genital mutilation on a female leads to serious vaginal and uterine complications. Moreover, the fundamental right to religion and religious practice is always subject to public health and morality.”
Singhvi said genital mutilation was practiced among Bohra muslim men too and suggested the petitions be referred to a constitution bench for a larger debate.
But the Supreme Court came down heavily on Singhvi saying “Why should bodily integrity of a woman be subject to a religious practice?” “Such a religious practice is covered under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act”, which makes touching the genital of a girl less than 18 years an offence”.
The reason Congress has allowed Singhvi to defend female mutilation is because of the appeasement politics and to garner minority votes. Even during the argument of Triple Talaq, the Congress backed this cruel practice just to avoid angering their vote banks. It is shameful that Congress and Rahul Gandhi would not mind degrading the dignity of women just to gain votes and falsely project themselves as the flag bearers of liberalism in India.
This is the real face of these pseudo seculars and liberals!!!
