The central government is all set to help the farmers growing kharif crops big time. The much awaited proposal to increase MSP for farmers is likely to be announced this week.
The CCEA has proposed an increase an MSP hike of Rs 200 a quintal, and Pulse by over Rs 400 a quintal. The current MSP of common grade paddy is Rs 1,750 a quintal while that of kharif pulses varies between Rs 5,400 and Rs 5,575 a quintal. A significant rise could push up their MSPs over Rs 6,000 a quintal (Business Standard).According to sources, the highest MSP is likely to be given to the ragi crop whose prices are projected to increase by Rs 900 a quintal to around Rs 2,800 a quintal.
Apart from Ragi, jowar arend maize have also been proposed to get an increase in MSP. The proposal came in line with the central government’s promise to increase MSP 1.5 times the A2+FL cost of production for all notified 23 crops.
In a cabinet meeting last week, the Prime Minister himself saidsaid the government will announce the MSP rise in the upcoming meeting. He assured that at least 1.5 times of the production cost will be covered in the MSP rise.
The government sources said that for those kharif crops which have already got MSP over 1.5 times production cost, the rise will be minimal. But there will a sharp increase in MSP for crops like paddy, ragi and moong, whose MSP are well below 150 per cent of the input cost reported Business Standard (https://wap.business-standard.com/article/economy-policy/ccea-may-hike-msp-of-paddy-by-rs-200-a-quintal-pulses-by-rs-400-118070301355_1.html)The agricultural ministry said that the government was keen on recommending higher MSP than that was proposed by the CACP considering the farmers plight on the country.
So it is most likely that the Modi government has gone full fledge to support nthe farmers by increasing the MSP like never before.
