The death toll in devastating Kerala floods is rising and has reached to the number of 79. Around 2,406 villages in 14 districts were badly hit by the rains and floods and over 26,400 hectres of crops were damaged. Kerala flood situation has worsened since yesterday with heavy rains, landslides and adverse weather conditions. Southern Railways, schools, colleges and Kochi Metro have been suspended due to floods in the state. The availability of drinking water is turning out to be a major problem for the people there.
According to ANI reports, 12 teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), 6 from Delhi and 6 from Gandhinagar -are being airlifted to Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. 18 teams are already deployed in the state. Many celebrities have come forward for their part of the contribution. Many stars from the industry have already contributed in lakhs and are urging their fans on social media to help as much as they can for the people suffering from Kerala floods. Mollywood star Mammootty and his son Dulquer Salmaan donated Rs 25 Lakhs.
Suriya had announced to donate Rs. 10 Lakhs to Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) during his visit to the 25th year celebration programme at Trivandrum. Today his brother-actor Karthi handed over the cheque for Rs.10 Lakhs to the President of AMMA, Mohanlal in person at Trivandrum.
A lot of people have come together to help and provide relief to the affected people in Kerala floods. The Cheif Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan, also tweeted on Saturday with a distress relief fund asking people to help better the situation.
Also, many stars from the South Indian film industry have been contributing money and are promoting helpline numbers on social media. Actors Dulquer Salmaan, Nayanthara, Tamil star Vishal and others have been expressing concern over the flood situation in Kerala. Also, cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, Bollywood star John Abraham are totally disturbed with the situation of the people in Kerala. Check out the tweets below.
