Amid central government’s big move to release the NRC list which identifies the illegal Bangladeshis who entered India many years back, the former home secretary has revealed scathing information about how Congress used these illegal migrants for their vote bank politics.
Ram Pradhan who was the home secretary in the Rajiv Gandhi government in 1985 has expressed his concern about the illegal migrants and has revealed how Congress used these people for votes. Pradhan was the person who had negotiated the talks of Assam Accord with AASU (All Assam Students Union) in order to identify the illegal migrants in Assam and deport them back to Bangladesh. The negotiation was successful and the government of India was supposed to take up the task of identifying illegal migrants. But the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi is said to have stopped the process fearing a backlash from the Muslim community which was the major vote banks of Congress.
Ram Pradhan who spoke to Economic Times, said that as the Accord was signed, it resulted in the anger of Muslims and Bangla community people living in Assam. Fearing the loss of votes from minority community, the Congress government decided not to take the process forward.
Pradhan Said “There was a lot of dissatisfaction among the people in Assam. While Rajiv did not ask for the exercise to be stopped, he said it should be done properly, which slowed down everything. The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) also realised that it was not easy to implement it, so the whole thing eventually petered out.”

Pradhan also said that Rajiv Gandhi was very scared to take the matter forward as it would make a massive impact on his parties electoral process and feared that foreign countries may start interfering in the internal matter of India.
When asked about BJP chief Amit Shah’s claim that the NRC was the result of the Assam accord, the former bureaucrat said, “NRC is meant to identify the illegal people only They (BJP/Shah) are right, they are not wrong.” said the former bureaucrat. ” Economc Times Reported
Pradhan endorsed the fact that there was massive infiltration happening in West Bengal which is a matter of great concern and expressed anguish as to how will the government handle the situation.
So, it is now pretty clear that Congress since before has been using the illegal migrants from Bangla for their vote bank politics endangering the National security of the country. This is exactly why the Congress and Mamata Banerjee doesn’t want the NRC list to be publicized as it will snatch away the voting rights of these illegal people which will, in turn, affect the votes of the so-called secular parties.
It is not just in Assam, but illegal Bangladeshis have become a problem in many metro states and are being supported by pseudo secular parties for their political games. They have been able to get fake voter IDs, AADHAR cards, ration cards and government jobs which is only making the country more insecure.
It is important that the central government takes strong action against them and make sure a permanent solution is chalked against illegal migrants.
