In a sensational twist, the United Arab Emirates has clearly said that it has not at all announced Rs 700 crore relief money to Kerala. Now the question is why the Kerala Chief Minister said that the United Arab Emirates had pledged to provide a sum of 100 million US dollars (700 crore) to Kerala.
The UAE Ambassador Ahmed Albanna said that there has been no official announcement on the amount of financial aid. He also said “the assessment of relief needed for the flood and aftermath is ongoing. Announcing any specific amount as financial aid, I don’t think it is final since it is still ongoing”. he added “Yes, that is correct. It is not yet final (Rs 700 cr). It has not been announced”.
Kerala Chief Minister under attack!
Earlier, after announcing in a press conference that Kerala will be given Rs 700 crore by the UAE, the Kerala Chief Minister had said “As I understand, UAE on its own has proposed this aid. UAE cannot be considered as any other nation, as their rulers have underlined. Indians, especially Keralites, have contributed immensely in their nation-building”.
Now, will Mr Vijayan kindly answer who whispered in his ears that the UAE was offering Rs 700 crore relief money? Pinarayi Vijayan had also dragged Prime Minister Modi saying “Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, made the assistance offer when he spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over phone”.
The announcement was suspected by several as there was no official statement by the UAE government. Among them, the prominent one to suspect was Dr Gaurav Pradhan. From day one he suspected the assistance from the UAE.
Now, this has proved as a headache to all the trolls out there and the opposition parties that had attacked the Modi government on the relief money.
