The journalist who fought to bring the naxalites to the mainstream has been shot dead in Bangalore today. In the late evening, Gauri Lankesh was shot dead by unknown men at her residence. Two bullets had hit pierced her chest and a bullet was shot at her head as per the recent news. She breathed her last breath at her residence itself at around 8 PM
55 years old journalist was a staunch left wing supporter and was actively leading several social movements. The murderers had fired altogether 7 bullets in which three bullets hit her body.
It was also said that she had asked for security from the state government as she had threat calls from unknown people. Police sources said that Ms Lankesh collapsed at the entrance of her house after she was shot at her residence in Rajarajeshwari Nagar.
Gowri Lankesh was a strong critic of PM Modi and right wing organisations. She had a weekly “Gauri Lankesh Patrike” and was known for her fearless journalism.
This kind of murder was not new in Karnataka. Last year, Kalaburgi was murdered and the killers were still not identified. She was a center of controversies too, last year a Judicial Magistrate First Class court here convicted her of defamation in two cases and sentenced her to six months in jail and imposed Rs. 10,000 penalty. Later on, the court granted her bail and allowed her to appeal to a higher court.
