Tamil films superstar Kamal Haasan may have made a massive blunder
before tens of thousands of people who attended the launch of his new
party at Madurai as he invited under-fire Delhi Chief Minister
Arvind Kejriwal on to the stage at a time when Kejriwal is engulfed in
controversy.
Kejriwal has maintained a studied silence amid serious allegations that the Delhi Chief Secretary was assaulted at a meeting of MLAs at his residence in his presence. Earlier on Wednesday, the key accused, MLA Amanatullah, was arrested and taken into judicial custody along with other MLAs for allegedly slapping and kicking Delhi Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash over an alleged altercation on the release of funds for a celebratory adverting campaign by the Kejriwal Government.
Kejriwal was welcomed on stage by Haasan with a bouquet of flowers.

"This is the revolution of a lifetime", Kamal Haasan said, shortly before welcoming the Delhi CM on to the stage. Kejriwal, seemingly unapologetic over the matter of the assault which has created chaos in Delhi and sparked outrage among the civil services community beamed and remained seated next to Haasan through the event. His presence at such a time, that too, seemingly as chief guest, has thrown a shroud of controversy over the launch of Kamal Haasan's party.
Haasan's party is called the 'Makkal Needhi Maiyam', which translates to 'Party of the people''. Its launch comes at a time when there is tremendous flux in the political scenario in Tamil Nadu, in particular, with the entrance of fellow actor-turned-politician Rajinikanth also expected imminently. An EPS-OPS-led AIADMK remains in power but with the DMK lurking and the Sasikala-TTV faction having resolved to bring the government down, the upheaval that followed the death of former CM Jayalalithaa looks set to continue.
Haasan welcomed several party members on to the stage, some of whom spoke even as he and Kejriwal sat before the massed crowd, often being projected on a titanic screen.
