Putin became Russia's President for the fourth time

Vladimir Putin won with a huge margin, became President of Russia for another 6 years. At the end of his presidential term in 2024, Putin will be of 71 years. Prior to this only Soviet leader Eknath Joseph Stalin had this much long duration to rule. Putin said in his first meeting in Moscow's Red Square as the President for the fourth time, his goal is to further strengthen Russia's defense against the West, and improve the living standards of Russian citizens. He called upon to protect the motherland unitedly.

In Russia only 70 percent of the votes were casted this year. Voting continued till 8pm. Russia's Central Election Commission announced at night that Putin won with 75.9 percent of the total vote. One of his rival left candidate Pavel Grudinin received 13 percent of the vote. Nationalist Party candidate Vladimir Jyrinowski received 6 percent of the vote. A total of 7 candidates had stood against Putin in this election. But no one was such influential as him. Only powerful opposition leader Alexe Navalny was not allowed to contest the elections this year.
