BSF recoveried smuggling Bike,Mobile,Tokey Geckos


BSF APPREHENDED TWO INDIAN NATIONALS ALONGWITH 03 NOS OF ENDANGERED SPECIES OF LIZARDS 'TOKAY GECKOS’  IN THE AREA OF RAHU TARA UNDER BOP KEDARIPARA OF 60 BN BSF OF SECTOR MALDA. Based on specific information of BSF regarding smuggling of endangered species of lizards 'Tokay Gecko' from the general area Rahu Tara (Habibpur ) towards Malda Town, a joint special operation with Forest Department Malda was planned by BSF Team Farakka and 60 Battalion BSF. Accordingly, on 21st May 2018 special ambushes were laid at two suspected places near Rahu Tara and Habibpur market. At about 1730 hrs special ambush party which was positioned at Rahu Tara intercepted 02 persons coming on motor cycle. During search of the detained persons, following items were recovered from their possession:-
a) Tokay Geckos - 03 (kept in a wire mesh cage concealed in a nylon carry bag)
b) Bike (Suzuki) - 01 (Regt No. WB-66-Z-4638)
c) Nokia Mobile - 01
d) Adhar Card - Siba Biswas
On preliminary questioning, the apprehended persons revealed their identity as under:-

a) Haran Biswas (DOB-16.08.1986) (Main accused) S/o-Late Jagadish Biswas, Vill-Nandghar, PO-Jagajivanpur, Ps-Habibpur, Dist-Malda.
b) Siba Biswas (DOB-10.01.1997) (associate), S/o-Jatish Biswas, Vill-Nandghar, PO-Jagajivanpur Ps-Habibpur, Dist-Malda.

Seized wildlife lizard alongwith other items and apprehended persons have been handed over to DFO Malda for taking further legal action.
The general area of Kaliachak, Malda are nefarious for various types of crime i.e. smuggling of FICN, Drugs, Cattle, Forest product etc. Geckos are listed in Schedule III of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, as a 'highly endangered animal'. Each one of the live animal, which are usually 40 centimetre long carries huge price tag in international market.
Adopting the operational guidelines issued by Dr. Rajesh Mishra, IPS, Inspector General BSF South Bengal Frontier, the BSF troops are dominating the Indo-Bangladesh Border so as to effectively check the menace of smuggling and other activities of Anti National Elements on South Bengal Border.
The joint efforts of BSF and Forest department yielded in seizure of endangered species and apprehension of 02 wild life smugglers.
