Bill passed to keep West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee out of Lokayukta

Since my childhood days, I was taught that all the people living in India are treated equal irrespective of their caste, creed, religion, richness and position in the society. But after I saw Mamata Banerjee, I realized that whatever was taught to me was a lie.

In what is called to be a shameful incident, the Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee will not be interrogated in cases related to corruption as per the West Bengal Lokayukta (Amendment) Bill, 2018, which was passed in the state’s Legislative Assembly today.

The government in a gazette stated that “It is expedient to amend the West Bengal Lokayukta Act, 2003, and this Act may be called the West Bengal Lokayukta (Amendment) Act, 2018. Amending Section 8A so as to exclude any investigation of any complaint relating to allegation of corruption against the Chief Minister relating to public order and any investigation of the complaint against a public servant without the approval of the state government”.
Do to this, the Chief Minister’s office has been kept out of the purview of the Lokayukta. BJP state president Dilip Ghosh condemned this move by saying “I believe that everyone should be under its purview. Why should the chief minister be excluded?”.
Even the CPI(M) legislator Sujan Chakraborty bashed Mamata Banerjee by saying, “Keeping herself out of the bill’s purview shows that Banerjee is scared. She fought her political career by raising slogans of honesty but now wants to keep herself out of the purview of the bill.”

A report had earlier said that the bench of Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice R Banumathi had observed that West Bengal, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Jammu & Kashmir, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and Telangana had not appointed any Lokpal, Lokayukta or up-Lokayukta”.
Even the Indians condemned this decision of Mamata Banerjee’s government today. A twitterati said “So it was needed to keep Mamata Banerjee out of Lokayukta! What is the fear? Skeletons will come out of the cupboard?”.
