Did you know the religious significance of “Saffron” colour in Hinduism?


Colours play a major role in Asian countries worldwide. Out of all those countries, India is known for its vibrant colours and festivals cultural practise. Each of those colours has its own meaning, an importance of its own and marks a meaning with its shade.
While some colours symbolize negativity, some have their own positive effects on an individual as well as the surrounding environment. Colours like red, yellow (turmeric), green and white mark the religious importance of their own. Apart from all these colours, Saffron is one colour that stands out from the crowd having its unique significance in eastern religion and culture.

Hinduism: Sacred saffron

Designers and devout Hindus have something in common: They both know color plays an important role in creating an environment that enhances good vibes and well-being. In Hinduism, proper use of color is believed to keep people happy and cheerful. Hindu artists use color when representing the deities to symbolize their essential qualities.
Saffron, the burnt-orange hue of the precious spice, is also a sacred color in Hinduism. It represents fire and the burning away of impurities and is the color worn by holy men. Triangular and often forked saffron flags are seen fluttering atop most Sikh and Hindu temples.

It comprises of the colours of Sun, Mars & Jupiter that relates to:
Driving the desire (Mars) for Truth or Moksha, liberation (Sun) with the help of knowledge and one who dispels it (Jupiter)

It is the color of holy men and ascetics who have renounced the world. Wearing saffron symbolizes the quest for light. It is the battle colors of the Rajputs- the warrior class of Ancient India.

Importance of Agni..

It is said that the importance of fire has given rise to the importance of the color in Hinduism. Since the color of fire is Saffron, a huge symbolized value has been attached to it. The fire destroys everything it comes across into a lump of ash-whether it is your precious of assets. The rich burns as well as the poor, under the power of Agni.
Fire burns away the darkness and invites light-symbolize of knowledge burning the attitude of ignorance.
