Sex Scandal: Here’s why Pope Francis said he’s Ashamed about Catholic Church’s failure

Vowed to end the Sexual exploitation of children by members of the Church Association all over the world and the on-going corruption added cover-up of abuse was equal to filth. Setting out a serious outrage towards greater commitment to eliminating this scourge in the Church, at any cost is a must.

“I am ashamed of the Catholic Church’s failure to address the cases of Sex Abuse by members of the clergy”, said Pope Francis while he was on a visit to Ireland, while he spent some time with the victims of sexual abuse.

“The failure of ecclesiastical authorities, bishops, religious superiors, priests and others adequately to address these appalling crimes has rightly given rise to outrage, and remains a source of pain and shame for the Catholic community. I myself share those sentiments,” the Pope said during an address at Dublin Castle.

While the media houses were smart enough to catch hold that, the Pope failed to specifically mention the current scandal over a US grand jury report documenting at least 1,000 cases of clerical paedophilia. He also did not discuss concrete changes in laws or transparency or address the question of the Vatican’s complicity in the abuse cases, as per reports of CNN.
According to reports in Chile Alone, about 80 Roman Catholic priests have been accused of Sexual abuse in the past 18 years. Recent reports stated that so far, the authorities have investigated 158 Catholic Priests, officials and workers on allegations of sexual abuse. The number of victims is said to be in Hundreds.
The top aide of Chile’s Archbishop Cardinal Ricardo Fizzati, has been arrested for sexual crimes against children. It is rather shocking that the prosecutors reportedly believe that Cardinal Fizzati had knowledge of his aide’s crime but he chose not to disclose anything about it.
Ireland’s Prime Minister Leo Varadkar, who spoke before the Pope, did not skirt the current abuse revelations that emerged in Pennsylvania.
“In recent weeks, we have all listened to heart-breaking stories from Pennsylvania of brutal crimes perpetrated by people within the Catholic Church, and then obscured to protect the institution at the expense of innocent victims,” he said, referring to the investigation in the US state that found that over 1,000 identifiable minors had been abused by 300 priests.
“It is a story all too tragically familiar here in Ireland,” Varadkar said. He called for “zero tolerance” of Church sexual abuse and urged the Pope “to adopt stringent norms meant to ensure that they do not happen again.”
“Holy Father, I ask that you use your office and influence to ensure this is done here in Ireland and across the world,” Varadkar said, and asked the Pope to listen to the victims.
The people who attended a Mass celebrated by the Pope at the city’s Phoenix Park were in thousands, with all 500,000 tickets for the free event booked out. He was also expected to face unprecedented protests over the clerical abuse scandals and the Church’s handling of them.
India also has witnessed a number of such cases by Church Priests and Missionaries of Charity in the recent days. Baby selling and Child trafficking by the Nuns of the Missionaries had grasped the attention of many in India and led to a greater outrage against it. Church indulging in such activities is no lesser than a shameful crime by the preachers of Peace!!
This trip by Pope to Ireland, the first papal visit in 39 years, comes on the heels of a damning report released last week by a grand jury in Pennsylvania that found 300 Catholic priests across the state had abused more than 1,000 children in the past 70 years. Francis, has been too slow to act on the sexual abuse crisis within the Catholic Church, wrote an open letter to all Catholics following the grand jury report, acknowledging and condemning the “atrocities” and calling on the church to do the same.
