Sridevi's iconic saree looks
Sridevi would have been 55 today. In February this year, the actress' sudden and tragic death left family, friends and fans reeling in shock and grief. Sridevi, who lit up the screen in films such as Naagin, Mr India, Chaal Baaz, Chandni and Lamhe, drowned in the bathtub of a hotel in Dubai where she had been attending the wedding of Kapoor nephew Mohit Marwah. She had returned to acting a few years ago with English Vinglish and won the National Award for Best Actress posthumously for her performance in MOM. Today, on her 55th birth anniversary, Sridevi is as beloved as she ever was, not only for her glorious body of work but also as a style icon. Among her best remembered film costumes are the sarees she set trends with - as a tribute, we've listed Sridevi's nine most iconic saree looks.
Top of the list is, of course, the saree that set the gold standard for the 'Yash Raj heroine' - Sridevi's white chiffon saree in 1989's Chandni has become the look most associated with her and spawned a thousand imitations.

In 1987's iconic Mr India, Sridevi won hearts as the quirky reporter Seema - but she also scorched the screen in an incredible look that hasn't been forgotten till today. She wore a blue chiffon saree with a matching bindi and red lip in the sensual song Kaate Nahin Kat Te, which showcased her dancing skills to the max.

Although she only made a cameo in the 1986 film Jaanbaaz, that didn't stop Sridevi from setting the screen on fire. In the song Har Kisi Ko Nahi Milta Yahan Pyaar Zindagi Mein, set against the backdrop of a sea, the actress looked like a dream in a red chiffon saree with voluminous hair and red lipstick.

In the cult film Sadma, which was the Hindi remake of Sridevi's Tamil hot Moondram Pirai, she wore a crisp red saree with gold borders and an elbow length matching blouse. This was paired with gold earrings and pulled back hair.

In Nagina, along with Sridevi's famed snake dance that's popular even today, her saree also won hearts. She wore a sunny yellow saree with heavy gold work along with matching bangles, jewellery and her signature red lip.

Apart from the white saree, a second look from Chandni is unforgettable today. Sridevi wore a yellow lace saree with a matching sleeveless blouse, paired with a string of pearls and straight hair, as she danced on a hilltop.

In Lamhe, Sridevi made not just one, but two stunning saree appearances. Her first was a blue printed saree with a three fourth sleeved blouse and earrings.

Her second look consisted of a poppy pink saree with white trimming and a long plait to match.

In her comeback movie English Vinglish, Sridevi marched right into our hearts wearing a blue floral saree with a beige blouse. Complementing this was radiant makeup, a simple bindi and a subdued braid in her hair.
