When United Nations witnessed its First ever Hindi speech!
The man who uplifted our National Language to the International platform by delivering speech in Hindi at the United Nations, he became the first person to break the barriers of elite Foreign Language and to speak in Hindi at the United Nations.

He was the first Prime Minister of India and the first External Affairs Minister of India who had delivered speech in Hindi at the United Nations. And this got him the level of recognition to stop not his fame further.

A single common “Goods and Services Tax (GST)” was proposed and given a go-ahead in 1999 during a meeting between the PM Vajpayee and his economic advisory panel, which included three former RBI governors IG Patel, Bimal Jalan and C Rangarajan. Vajpayee set up a committee headed by the Finance Minister of West Bengal, Asim Dasgupta to design a GST model.
The Ravi Dasgupta committee which was also tasked with putting in place the back-end technology and logistics (later came to be known as the GST Network, or GSTN, in 2017). It later came out for rolling out a uniform taxation regime in the country. In 2002, the Vajpayee government formed a task force under Vijay Kelkar to recommend tax reforms. In 2005, the Kelkar committee recommended rolling out GST as suggested by the 12th Finance Commission.

Two of the flagship projects :Golden Quadrilateral and PM Gramin Sadak Yojana were envisioned and brought on ground very successfully. The opening up of insurance sector which has been a glorious success and initiating the debate on one country one tax (GST was not named then) were the main highlights. Another infrastructure booster would have been linking up of rivers but nothing much could be achieved in that project in 4.5 years. He controlled the fiscal deficit very well and handed over the economy in very robust state to UPA I.

“Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan” one of the largest education programs to provide basic education to every child of India was his contribution during his political rule. His six years at the Prime Minister’s Office led to a major transformation and expansion of the backward India.
As the Prime Minister of India, he has always tried for harmonious relations between the Centre and the States, having an ear to everyone coming to him with grief. For his unforgettable contribution, on 25 December 2014 President of India graced him with the Bharat Ratna Award.His birthday, 25 December, was declared “Good Governance Day” as recognition of his services to the nation.
