Ajay Makan resigned from the post of Delhi Congress President citing health reasons behind the resignation. He left the country immediately after his resignation.
In a letter to Congress president Rahul Gandhi , Makan said that he has a willowing health condition and needs treatment. He further mentioned that he is veing treated abroad . In such a situation, with immediate effect, he has asked for the release.
The former CM of Delhi , Sheila Dixit and Makan falling sick just before the Lok Sabha elections, it is believed to be a major setback for Congress in the state.
In his resignation, Makan said that due to poor health he will not be able to put his effort for the people.
After the defeat of the Congress in the 2013 Assembly elections, the party high command has appointed Arvinder Singh Lovely as the state chief in place of Jai Prakash Agarwal. Prior to the 2015 assembly elections, after removing Arvindar Lovely, the command of the party was handed over to Ajay Maken. Under the leadership of Maken, the elections to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi were held, but they could not win the party a big win.
