CBI to file chargesheet against Vijay Mallya


The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) may file a chargesheet within a month against Vijay Mallya.

The agency may also make senior bank officials responsible for the loan given to liquor businessman Vijay Mallya's company Kingfisher Airlines. It will be the first charge sheet filed by the CBI in case of debt of more than Rs 6,000 crore given to Kingfisher by a group of 17 bank led by State Bank of India. In this, the State Bank alone gave a loan of Rs 1,600 crore.

The agency filed the charge sheet against Mallya last year in a separate case of outstanding debt of Rs 900 crore given by IDBI Bank. In this case senior officials of the bank were allegedly involved in the case.

The CBI filed a case against Mallya in the case of IDBI loan case in 2015 and in the group loan case in 2016.


Both serving and retired bank officers can be accused in charges of lending to Kingfisher Airlines because the agency has collected enough evidence in the case of misuse of the post against them.
