Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme ( MGNREGS) has been working in Howrah. Recently, the work of reforming up to B.Ed College of Dighir Math Canal has been done in Shuvoara Gram Panchayet of Panchla block of Howrah. Here the women in rural areas are seen to take part in the work. In the current financial year, the work of Cennel Desalting is going on in MGNREGS project from Shahpara Wood Pole to Hibirdabor Monsatala. The initial estimated cost for this project has been fixed at Rs. 3,77,799. Number of working days is 1,711. Workers' wage rate is Rs.191. It is to be noted that the purpose of this project is to ensure the livelihood and social security of poor people by creating sustainable resources through creating livelihood opportunities for the most poor people of the village, preventing soil fertility, irrigation, soil erosion, water conservation etc. This program is implemented through neglected participation in society, especially women, decentralized interaction with people of SC / ST communities. An adult member of a family has to make an oral or written application to the block office or village panchayat to get the opportunity for this project. After verification of the application, the families are given a specific registration number and job card. Work is available within 15 days of receiving the application. Unemployment allowance is not available if 100 days of unskilled manual work is not available for a financial year.
