It was well known that the Mahaghat Bandhan which was formed by all opposition parties to defeat Modi had major crisis as there was no unity amongst one another.
Each leader who have their own goals and ambitions of becoming the Prime Minister of India are just using one another for their benefits. The first sign of decent was proved when Mayawati expressed her displeasure over Rahul Gandhi’s leadership and immediately her party declared that Mayawati be made the Prime Ministerial candidate. After her, Mamata Banerjee also expressed her unhappiness over the leadership of Rahul Gandhi which had put uncertainty of Ghatbandhan.
Just recently, the ex CM of Telangana Chandrashekhar Rao made strong remarks against Rahul Ganddhi and raised apprehensions about his capability. But now, Mayawati has gone a step further and given a shock to Congress and Ghat Bandhan by announcing her tie up with the Ajit Jogi’s party instead of Congress.
BSP supremo Mayawati said that Jogi will be the Chief Ministerial face of the alliance. BSP will contest 35 seats while Jogi’s party, Janta Congress, will contest 55 seats out of the 80 assembly seats in the state. The Congress which is facing massive existential crisis was relying on Mayawati to face BJP in Chattisgarh. But now with Mayawati’s sudden decision to go with Ajit Jogi as put the Congress in a fix.
Mayawati who had earlier said that alliance with Congress would be only possible if Congress would offer her a decent share of seats. With this development, the tie up of Congress-BSP in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh aslo has come under shadow.
Mayawati is expecting to contest on at least 50 out of the 230 seats in the Chattisgarh while Congress has not been willing to spare more than 25 seats. Congress was keen to seal this alliance before Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Bhopal on September 17 but it has not happened so far despite many rounds of talks between state Congress president Kamal Nath and BSP leaders.
In a joint press statement on the Chhattisgarh tie-up, Mayawati and Jogi took a dig at the state leadership of both the Congress and BJP in the state. “There has been unbalanced development in Chhattisgarh in the last 15 years. Both BJP and Congress state leaders have been helpless and dependent on the Centre for decisions and this has always compromised the interests of people of the state. The state needs a strong regional force and both of our parties share the same philosophy,” the joint statement.
So now Congress will have a herculean task facing BJP in all states on its own. Rahul Gandhi who has failed to prove his abilities in every front will face a major task of leading his party in all three states.
