Onion production is high this time too leading to reduction of its price to 900 rupees a quintal. Last year it was sold at Rs. 1900 per quintal.
The price of onions has fallen to 500-800 quintals in the market of Maharashtra. Farmers may suffer a major crisis due to such a decline in onion prices but this will provide great relief to the customers. They are forced to sell onions cheaper due to higher yields.
From Karnataka and Tamilnadu, the arrival of new onions will begin in the starting of this month. New onions will start coming from Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra too. It is expected that the rate of onion will remain low throughout the year.
Onion was sold for Rs 90 a kg last year but now it is being sold in 5 to 10 rupees.
