A Pakistani court released the former premier Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law, this decision comes holding the prison sentences given by a lower court adhering to the pending hearing of their appeals.
The order from the Islamabad High court came as a reprieve for Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Muhammad Safdar, who had been jailed since July 13 after being held accountable at anti-corruption court , which found them guilty of corrupt practices linked to the Sharif family’s ownership of upscale London flats.
In response to a case filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), the anti-corruption court had given Sharif an 11-year sentence and his daughter an eight-year term.
However, the high court bench of Justices Athar Minallah and Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb accepted the appeals filed by the Sharifs and Safdar against the lower court’s verdict of July 6 and said their sentences will remain suspended until the final ruling.
The bench added that the trio would be released on bail after paying Rs 500,000 each as surety.
