The Union Cabinet has taken an ordinance road to make the practice of instant triple talaq a penal offence.
The ordinance now needs President Ram Nath Kovind's approval before it passes as a law.
The law ensures much-needed protection to the victims who are abused using 'triple talaq' (verbal divorce), it is assumably a game changing decision for the ruling BJP as far the 2019 polls are concerned.
During the Prime Minister's Independence Day speech, he had said that the Opposition parties had created hurdles in the clearance in the Rajya Sabha after his government brought it for acceptance.
While the ordinance just needs am approval from the President before it passes as a law , this strategic move by the saffron brigade seems to be a big one just before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections provided the fact that any party opposing the bill shall face serious counter from the citizens.
