Garlic is proven to be a saviour in many diseases. It is also a major element in the basic diet of an Indian. But the condition of the farmers of garlic in the country are worsening, farmers are worried about its prices.
The highest garlic yield in the country is in some areas of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. In the past, in Madhya Pradesh, the price of garlic was fierce. After bumper production, the price of garlic was reduced to one rupee per kg in markets of Madhya Pradesh. After which the angry farmers left all the garlic in the market and went away.
Now a similar case can be heard from Gujarat. In a market in Ahmedabad, the farmers are getting garlic at the rate of Rs 50 to Rs 500 per quintal. There is a great disappointment in the state's garlic farmers because of not getting the cost of the crop. While retail is still selling garlic 50 to 100 rupees per kg.
Farmers who arrived with garlic in Ahmedabad market say that they are getting a price of one rupee per kg. Farmers have made a request to Gujarat government to help them. Farmers believe that due to intermediaries, they are not getting the right price of garlic. Retail is still getting a price of more than Rs. 50 per kg.
However, the big traders in the market say that due to over consumption, farmers are not getting the right price. According to garlic merchants present in Ahmedabad, two years ago, farmers were getting good price of garlic, so farmers increased the scope of garlic cultivation, but now the prices are getting less because of low consumption.
