India’s Prime Minister has once again made noise international platform. After getting the Indian economy to the right track, the next achievement done by PM Modi has compelled the United Nations to honor him with the award “Champion of Earth” of 2018.
Announcing the award to PM Modi, the United Nations said “UN Environment is recognising Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his bold environmental leadership on the global stage. Under Modi’s leadership, India pledged to eliminate all single-use plastics in the country by 2022. Prime Minister Modi also supports and champions the International Solar Alliance, a global partnership to scale up solar energy”.
One might have noticed that PM Modi is not just a “victory machine” who easily bags state after state to BJP’s kitty, but is also an all-rounder. While appreciating his bold move of implementing schemes and moves related to Indian economy like demonetization and GST, we must also not forget that he is the only Indian PM who has given high priority for the generation of power through solar energy.
Even during his tenure as India’s PM, he was known for his measures to promote nature friendly means of energy. And now it has been recognized by international organisation.
Indians have another good news: Here’s why Cochin International Airport gets “Entrepreneurial Vision” award!
Yes, Indians who were thumping with pride after they came to know that PM Modi was conferred with “Champion of Earth”, have got one more reason to celebrate and it is that the Cochin International Airport has been honored with the award for Entrepreneurial Vision.
Even though the Cochin International Airport is the biggest and busiest airport in Kerala and the fourth largest in India, its entire operation is based on solar energy. This is truly wonderful. In the year 2015, the Cochin International Airport became the world’s first fully solar powered airport.
Praising the Cochin International Airport, the UN said in its statement “Cochin International Airport will take home the award for Entrepreneurial Vision, for its leadership in the use of sustainable energy. Cochin is showing the world that our ever-expanding network of global movement doesn’t have to harm the environment. As the pace of society continues to increase, the world’s first fully solar-powered airport is proof positive that green business is good business”.
French President Emmanuel Macron also gets 2018’s “Champion of the Earth”:
Along with PM Modi, even the French president Emmanuel Macron was conferred with the 2018 “Champion of the Earth” award for his leadership in promotion of solar energy.
On the French President, the UN statement said “President of France, Emmanuel Macron has put climate action at the top of his foreign agenda. He is recognized for championing the International Solar Alliance and promoting international cooperation on environmental action, and for his leadership on the Global Pact for the Environment”.
