To make the Ganga clean, the government's major priority is to create sewerage structures in seven states. Union Road Transport and Highways and River Development and Ganga Conservation Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Sunday that the government is setting up 115 contaminated water purification plants in seven states with a total cost of Rs 18,000 crore.
Gadkari said that besides the development of river banks and development of national waterways on the river Ganga, there are plans to encourage cargo transport.The seven states where the purification plants will be installed are Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Haryana and Delhi.
The Minister said that 27 of these projects have already been completed. Work is going on in 42 and seven projects have been allocated.
