The Central Government has decided to increase the basic customs duty on luxury items (basic customs duty). The government has increased import duty on 19 luxury items. That is, these items coming from abroad will now be expensive.
In fact, due to the consistent strength of the rupee against the dollar, it was expected that the Government of India, under the strategy to stop imports of some non-essential items purchased from abroad, to keep the current account deficit under control will increase the import duty.
However, this decision of the government will be implemented from midnight on Wednesday i.e. today. The imports of these 90 items will be imposed from midnight on the increased rates. With this decision where imports of non-essential goods will be stopped and the consumption of dollars will be reduced, the Make in India campaign will also be encouraged.
The direct impact of India's decision will be on China's manufacturing industry, from which large quantities of goods are exported to India. It is worth noting that the customs duty on the imports of goods has been increased, in the financial year 2017-18, they had come to India by purchasing goods worth Rs. 86 thousand crore from abroad.
