Islamist organizations conspired the arrest of PM Modi in South Africa

The conspiracy of some of the Islamist organizations to arrest PM Modi when he attends the BRICS Summit has fallen flat. These Kashmiri Groups wanted to trap PM Modi ahead of his visit in South Africa for BRICS summit, (an international relations conference attended by the heads of state or heads of government of the five member states Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) by levying baseless allegations against him.

The two organizations South African Kashmiri Action Group and the Muslim Lawyers’ Association demanded the investigation, arrest and prosecution of PM Modi over his governance of Jammu and Kashmir. The allegations were based on a report released by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in June regarding alleged atrocities committed by India’s security forces in the state.

Attorney Yousha Tayob, who is the legal representative of the two civil society organisations pushing for PM Modi’s prosecution, wanted PM Modi arrested when he landed in the country. “We believe there is sufficient evidence for PM Modi’s arrest,” said Tayob. Last month, Tayob filed a request for a criminal investigation and prosecution of Modi on behalf of his clients, with the NPA, the SAPS and the head of the Directorate of Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks)

But the National Prosecuting Authority has rejected “war crimes” claims against PM Modi, describing the allegations as “inadequate” NPA spokesperson Luvuyo Mfaku said “After evaluating the evidential material, information received and the applicable law, the NPA decided there was inadequate evidence to sustain a successful prosecution and to support an application for a warrant of arrest.

It was not only PM Modi. These organizations were also building cases against Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese president Xi Jinping.

Some theorists in the Indian High Commission in Pretoria are also sensing that the conspiracy against Prime Minister PM  Modi is being hatched by the Gupta friendly officers to embarrass PM Modi as payback because during his 2016 state visit to South Africa, PM Modi snubbed a dinner at which he had heard some of the Gupta brothers would be present. PM Modi & President Ramaphosa do not like this Zuma-friendly Gupta family

Even if the NPA had not taken this decision PM Modi would not have had any arrests as the gathering was protected by the Geneva Convention which states that no visiting heads of state can be arrested. The Government of South Africa under the President Cyril Ramaphosa are putting their full efforts to revive the strained relationships with India that were during the Congress Era. Back in 2013 when South Africa last hosted the BRICS summit, the Indian government was upset about long delays in the programme and an apparent lack of respect by South Africa for protocol, which meant a planned bilateral between then president Jacob Zuma and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh did not take place, but meetings with the Chinese and Russian presidents did

Infact to make it sure that PM Modi doesn’t skip the BRICS meet; President Cyril Ramaphosa made full efforts. On Thursday night last week, instead of going home, Energy Minister Jeff Radebe got on a long-distance flight to India, with possibly not much more than a suit bag and briefcase in hand to convey to PM Modi’s people a decision by the National Prosecuting Authority last week not to arrest and prosecute their leader when he arrived in South Africa for the annual summit also involving Brazil, Russia, India, China, and a few plus-players too.
